Magnum Floors announced today a new “green” (FSC flooring) certified laminate flooring program with lifetime warranty.

Everyone is going green, from their shopping bags to their appliances. “However one of the biggest problems facing flooring retailers today and in the future will be “greenwashing” according Peter Rundle, President Magnum Floors.
To support his statement in a recent Floor Covering Weekly (January 2008) article TerraChoice (see video and complete study) surveyed six big-box stores and concluded “out of 1,018 consumer goods bearing 1,753 environmental claims only ONE met the standards of accurate green marketing”. Flooring was one of those green items surveyed.
One standard that has gained considerable respect in the flooring industry and Mr. Rundle believes “will become the industry standard is the FSC Certification“. He further stated “Like the Good Housekeeping Seal  the FSC Certificate will become the new accepted standard for consumers looking for green flooring.
Magnum,a European based manufacturer announced today that effective April 1, 2008 they will start offering FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified laminate flooring products in four distinctive collections through their US warehouse.

  1. The first part of this article is really interesting – I had no idea that the term ‘Greenwashing’ had been coined although I can well see that a lot of companies are guilty of doing it! It makes it much more difficult for those of us who do have real ethical business policies to seem genuine!
    thanks for highlighting it. Mary.
