John Wiggers Furniture

John Wiggers is a studio furniture maker who specializes in contemporary and Art Deco inspired designs. His holistic approach to furniture making often combines exotic veneers with unusual inlays such as purfling, metal, glass, stone and mother-of-pearl.

The spirit of John’s work reflects his deep philosophical commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability, largely by way of his involvement with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

and his use of FSC certified woods.
On Earth Day 1998 John became one of the first furniture makers in the world to become certified by Smartwood to the rigorous chain-of-custody standards of the FSC. Between 2000 and 2004 John also served on the board of FSC Canada in a variety of roles, including Treasurer and Chair.
In his travels and through his work with the FSC John has met a variety of aboriginal peoples, from the Kogi of the remote mountains of Columbia in South America to the Haida of the Pacific North-West in Canada.
These experiences have given John considerable insight into the profound ancient wisdom held by many aboriginal cultures, including some of the traditional holistic and medicinal uses of various plants and trees from the forest. This has translated into a holistic perspective that manifests in John’s design aesthetic by way of subtle manipulations of natural forms and materials.

Among John’s many achievements, his Kidney Shaped Desk is a recipient of the 2005 Adex Platinum Award
