Greener Product and MREA Introduce IREC Accredited Solar Installer Training in Georgia

Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA), one of America’s oldest and most respected solar training organizations and Greener Product LLC have entered into a strategic partnership to provide solar training in Atlanta, GA and Charlotte, NC starting January 2011.

Charleston, SC. Nov 22, 2010 – The numbers are in and are looking good for the future of solar jobs in the southeastern US.

According to the National Solar Jobs Census new jobs in the solar industry will increase by 24,000 this year and are projected to grow 30% over the next ten years. “Jobs expected to see the most growth are for photovoltaic installers, solar-specificelectricians, sales workers at wholesale trade firms, sales representatives or estimators at installation firms, and roofers with solar-installation experience” the Census report concluded.

Starting in January 2011 Greener Product and MREA will provide a three-part IREC accredited program that provides the training necessary to become a NABCEP Certified Solar Installer, recognized as the “gold” standard for PV and solar thermal installation certification. The program consists of two one day training modules on Basic Solar PV and Site Assessment and concludes with a five-day segment and full solar installation. Those wishing to become professional solar installers or those just having a passing interest in this new and exciting energy alternative are encouraged to attend.

Since 1990 MREA has offered courses in solar electric, solar thermal, small wind energy, and green building at their training center, the ReNew the Earth Institute located in Custer, Wisconsin. The MREA has 38 instructors and serve the more than 2,000 people a year that participate in their nationally accredited training programs. Internationally MREA currently has over 3200 active members from around the world representing 39 states and 3 foreign countries.

“With Georgia ranking 11th in US solar energy potential it is is only natural to assume that with financial incentives and the high level of interest in renewable energy Georgia could emerge as a national leader in solar energy.”  according to Peter Rundle, CEO, Greener Product LLC.

However to take full advantage of these new employment opportunities contractors will have to become trained and according to Rundle “there is no better organization than MREA to deliver this training in the Southeastern US”.

Instructors Profile

The training will be lead by Clay Sterling, Education Director, MREA. Clay is the only ISPQ-certified instructor in the country to hold certifications in both small wind and photovoltaics. Recently the IREC Institute for Sustainable Power Quality (ISPQ) recognized Clay’s accomplishments and commitment to excellence in renewable energy training by awarding him their prestigious Affiliated Instructor Certification in both small wind and photovoltaic technologies.
